Introduction to Media and Information Literacy

Given the available media that we now have in he world, what are its role and function in a democratic society? Well, I believe that its role first and foremost is to connect people. Media is one of the most powerful tool that can reach any audience at any given time. It should inform, bridge gaps, clarify, spread information, support or oppose and most especially, give people the right to express themselves and speak out there minds. In what way does media affect your life? I think that media plays a big role in my life. Being born in a time where the rise of technology, the internet and media itself was evolving, it became part of my daily life and up to this day, where globalization is at its peak, media is now my way of learning things that isn't taught in school, expressing my views and opinions, uncovering other things that aren't familiar to me and doing my role as a citizen of this country by being aware of what is happening around me.

It served as my outline because I can easily see my keypoints. It helped because I was able to organize my ideas and the work was made easier because I can summarize and sort out my thoughts. 

In your opinion, what makes an individual literate in media and information?      For me, an individual is literate in media if he or she fully understands his responsibility in using media, knows how to operate it, is aware of its purpose and most especially, verifies information before believing it. Being critical enough to know what to share and when to share it is also an important indication of literacy in media. Last is having the right knowledge and using media as a tool to further widen your learning. What activities/habits do you practice which illustrate media and information literacy? Give at least three examples.     I only share educational videos from reliable accounts .     I do not use offensive or foul words that can potentially harm others.    I know how to operate and use different kinds of media.
